SPECIFICATIONS
HULL TYPE
MODIFIED TUNNEL HULL. THE SPONSON SKATE SURFACES HAVE FOUR LATERAL STEPS AND A "BUBBLER" SYSTEM TO BREAK SURFACE TENSION. CONSTRUCTION IS MAHOGANYAND FIBERGLASS.

ENGINE TYPE
WATER COOLED AND MODIFIED 30 + CC TWO STROKE.
(IT BEGAN LIFE AS A SQUASHED WEED EATER)

OUTDRIVE TYPE
MODIFIED MARINE SPECIALTIES DUAL RUDDER SYSTEM. THE RUDDER MOUNTS WERE LENGTHENED TO GIVE A LONGER OPERATING LENGTH WITHOUT ACTUALLY INCREASING THE LENGTH OF THE HULL.  THE DRIVE SHAFT IS A 1/4 FLEX CABLE SPINNING IN A BRASS TUBE. I USED A SLIP FIT ON THE TUBE TO ALLOW ADJUSTMENTS OF THE PROPELLER THRUST ANGLE. I USED OUR TUFF-GUN FINISHES THROUGHOUT.

THE BASIC HULL STARTS TO TAKE SHAPE

FROM FRONT TO BACK: THE FUEL TANK, ENGINE, DRIVE SHAFT EXIT, RADIO
CONTROL EQUIPMENT,OUTDRIVE MOUNTING/CONTROL ROD EXITS.

THIS PHOTO SHOWS THE TOP COVER IN PLACE. THE SMALL ROUND HOLES
ARE FOR AIR FLOW COOLING.

THIS PHOTO SHOWS THE HULL FROM A FRONTAL VIEW. THE RAM AIR
INTAKES FOR THE "BUBBLER SYSTEM" ARE VISIBLE.


THE ENGINE

VISIBLE IN THESE PHOTO'S ARE THE WATER COOLED HEAD, EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND CYLINDER COOLING TUBES. THE BELLCRANKS FOR THE THROTTLE AND MIXTURE CONTROLS ARE VISIBLE, AS ARE THE HEAT SHIELD ABOVE THE CARBURATOR AND THE INTAKE VELOCITY STACK. THE ENGINE USES TWO CHANNELS OF THE RADIO CONTROL SYSTEM. ONE FOR THE THROTTLE AND A SECOND FOR MIXTURE CONTROL. THIS ALLOWS ME TO ADJUST THE MIXTURE AS IT'S RUNNING. THE CARBURATOR IS LARGE BORE. THE MUFFLER STARTED LIFE AS A SPRAY CAN AND THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD IS PART OF THE PLUMBING FROM THE KITCHEN SINK.  (NOT REALLY. MY WIFE MADE ME GO BUY MY OWN!) EVENTUALLY, THIS EXHAUST SYSTEM WILL BE REPLACED WITH A TUNED PIPE AND ALUMINUM TUBING. THE CLUTCH IS VISIBLE AT THE DRIVE END. LIGHTENING HOLES WERE CUT WHERE EVER THEY COULD GO. INTERNALLY, THE PISTON WAS LIGHTENED AND HAS PORT BYPASS HOLES MACHINED INTO IT. THE PORTS WERE ALL MATCHED AND SMOOTHED. COMPRESSION WAS ONLY SLIGHTLY INCREASED. THE INTAKE REED VALVE PORT WAS SLIGHTLY ENLARGED AND POLISHED.  A THIRD BEARING AND SECOND SEAL  WERE ADDED TO THE DRIVESHAFT FOR BETTER HIGH SPEED SUPPORT. ALL OF THE ROTATING COMPONENTS WERE BALANCED. I USED OUR TUFF-GUN FINISHES INSIDE AND OUT.


THE COMPLETED HULL TOP COVER STARTS TO GET THE PAINT.




THE HULL IS PAINTED AND HAS MOST OF THE DETAILING APPLIED.
THE TOP COVER AIR FLOW PORTS WERE SCREENED FROM THE
INSIDE PRIOR TO PAINTING.
